The Prince of Egypt – coming to Durham in 2026!

Our 2026 production will be the simply amazing, spectacular Stephen Schwartz musical, based on the DreamWorks animated feature film of the same name: “The Prince of Egypt”. We have been trying to obtain a licence for this show for several years and we were delighted when MTI decided to release the show for amateur performance. The show will be staged in The Gala Theatre, Durham, from Tuesday 12th – Saturday 16th May 2026evenings at 7.00 pm with Wednesday and Saturday matinées at 2.00 pm

The story is taken from the Biblical book of Exodus and tells of Moses, being cast aside as a new-born child in the bullrushes, to his adoption by Pharaoh Seti, being raised as a Prince of Egypt alongside his step-brother Rameses, to his realisation that God had a higher purpose for him, namely to lead the children of Israel to the ‘promised land’.

Told against a ravishing score with wonderful anthemic ballads, including the sublime Tony-Award winning: “When You Believe”, made famous by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, “Make It Right”, “Deliver Us”, “Simcha”, “Through Heaven’s Eyes” and many more, the show has a warm heart and is a very moving piece of musical theatre.
