“The Producers” comes to Durham!

Durham Musical Theatre Company’s next show will be “The Producers”. The show will be staged at the Gala Theatre, Durham from Tuesday 1st – Saturday 5th April, 2025evenings at 7.00 pm, with Wednesday & Saturday matinées at 2.00 pm. The show will be directed by Fred Wharton, musical direction by Malcolm Moffat and choreography by Kathleen Knox. The committee is delighted that it has been able to coax Fred out of his retirement to take on this spectacular and challenging show.

Based on Mel Brooks’ much-loved Academy Award winning movie, “The Producers” is an hilarious musical comedy that has taken Broadway and the West End by storm, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards and 3 Olivier Awards, more than any other show in Broadway history! – this comic masterpiece broke all the records (and all the rules) for Musical Theatre.

When down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock and his hapless accountant Leo Bloom hatch the ultimate theatrical scam – to raise more money than they need to produce a sure-fire Broadway disaster and then pocket the left-over cash when the show flops – who do they turn to? The world’s worst director, of course: Roger DeBris. Their guaranteed-to-fail fiasco? “Springtime for Hitler” – the musical! They soon find, however, that showbusiness can always find a way to kick you in the teeth and that showbiz success is entirely unpredictable.

This hilarious show has been seen all over the world and there have been many tours. A host of famous British comedians have appeared in various productions of the show, including: Lee Evans, James Dreyfus, John Gordon Sinclair, Peter Kay, Jason Manford, Phil Jupitus, David Badella, Louis Spence & Ross Noble.
